Lake Bilancino

Lake Bilancino is an artificial lake in the Mugello, at Barberino di Mugello. From the fifties was proposed the idea of creating a dam on the river Sieve, at Bilancino, to try to limit the risks of flood plain in dell'Arno and make better use of its waters in times of drought in places Florence and Prato. Were subsequently developed in 1982 and 1984 by entering into an agreement between the Region of Tuscany, the town of Barberino, the Community Montana and the Province of Florence, a plan which envisaged the transformation dell'invaso in a real lake, with the consequent creation of areas equipped and recovery along the banks. Work began in 1984, ahead with great speed. The inauguration of the dam was officially opened to the public in 1999.
